TEA Party Plans "Welcome" for President Obama
Kent, Ohio - The Portage County TEA Party announced today it’s plans to “welcome” President Obama during his visit to Kent State University on Wednesday, Septembers 26, 2012 with a take off on the Clint Eastwood “empty chair” speech at the Republican Convention. (View the video at www.PortageCountyTEAParty.com) Executive Director Tom Zawistowski explained the group's protest plans by saying “We are asking all residents of Portage County to put an empty chair in their front yard on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 to symbolize the empty promises this President has made to all of us since his election.” In addition to asking Portage County Citizens to put empty chairs in their yards on Wednesday, the group is also building 8 foot high, colorful chairs that it will place around the County and that will remain in place until the election. The chairs will be in place by Wednesday and will list President Obama’s broken promises to the American People.
Zawistowski explained, “This President said that he would cut the deficit in half but he did not cut it at all, which has grown the debt by five trillion dollars. This President said that unemployment would not go above 8% - instead it has not been below 8% for over three years. This President said he would protect Medicare - instead Obamacare cuts it by $700 billion. This President said that he would be a unifying force that would bring America together but instead has implemented policies that pit one group against another. This President said that he would change the worlds attitude toward America by offering the hand of friendship to our enemies. Instead he has alienated our strongest allies, like the UK and Israel, and stood by as allies like Egypt have been lost to radical islamic rule. This President said that he would help make a college education affordable but college costs have gone up and students and their parents have been buried with debt with few job prospects for the investment. President said he would Introduce a comprehensive immigration bill in the first year - instead he is fighting states who are trying to control illegal immigration. His promises are empty and his is a failed Presidency.”
Zawistowski concluded by saying “The fact that the President feels like he has to come to Portage County to campaign is a clear indication that they are concerned about losing the vote here in November in a county where he won handily if 2008. Our members are in touch with the voters in the community and we know that the polls are way off. His taking time to be interviewed on small local radio stations shows how desperate his campaign is for votes. If he can’t win Portage County, he can’t win Ohio. If he can’t win Ohio he is going to be a one term President. Our organization is more than excited about the election in November when we expect citizens to send an even stronger message to Washington than we had sent in 2010. We invite all citizens to educate themselves about the candidates and the issues and to vote, either by absentee ballot or at the polls, on November 6th.”
The TEA Party is not a political party but a grassroots cultural movement. The movement is educating American citizens about the Constitution and the uniquely American form of self-governance that has made our country so successful. Through this education, the movement is attempting to re-define what it means to be an American citizen, by encouraging individual to vote, to run for office and to attend government meeting in their area so that they can participate in their self governance. The acronym TEA stands for Totally Engaged Americans.
