Despite President’s Visit, Ohio Opposition To Gov’t Takeover Of Health Care Grows

In fact, Ohio newspapers are continuing to speak out against Washington Democrats’ government takeover of health care and their plans to employ the “Slaughter Solution” to get the Senate health care bill – “Cornhusker Kickback” and all – through the House without a vote.
In an editorial yesterday (3-16-10), the Cincinnati Enquirer slammed Democratic leaders for forcing a vote on a costly health care bill that will hurt our economy.
On Sunday, the Columbus Dispatch said Ohio members of Congress must decide “whether they were elected to give the American people the best health-care bill possible, or whether they were elected to save a president from a political morass.”“This disgusting process, which Democrats brazenly wish to bring to conclusion this week, is being done with little regard for the opinions of a clear majority of Americans who, while they may believe health care reform is necessary, think this particular approach will take our nation down the wrong economic path.”
And today the Cleveland Plain Dealer called the “Slaughter Solution” a “foolish mistake.”“Recent opinion surveys find that half or more of Americans oppose the proposed overhaul. The number favoring the plan rarely tops 40 percent. No proposal to make over a sixth of the U.S. economy and to radically alter the health-care prospects of all Americans should be rammed through in the face of such opposition.”
Speaking to small business owners in Greenville on Monday, Congressman Boehner vowed to fight against the burdensome mandates and Medicare cuts in Washington Democrats’ government takeover of health care. Boehner also promised to oppose Washington Democrats’ tactics that “fly in the face of how our entire system of Democracy works.”“Speaker Nancy Pelosi is considering a maneuver known as ‘deem and pass’ that would allow House members to approve a package of changes to the health care bill passed by the Senate without actually voting on the Senate bill. … It's too cute by half. Ever since the election of Scott Brown ended the Democrats' filibuster-proof Senate advantage, congressional leaders have been trying to find a way around the normal process of squaring legislative differences.”
“The employer mandate, the individual mandate, the special deals for other states; all these tax hikes, mandates and special-interest giveaways are causing employers to throw their hands up and say ‘enough is enough,’” Boehner said. “Ohio members of Congress have a decision to make. Are they going to stand with their constituents, or are they going to stand with Nancy Pelosi?"
