Portage County TEA Party to Hold “Romney-Ryan Road Rally” Saturday

Kent, Ohio -  The Portage County TEA Party will hold what it is calling a “Romney-Ryan Road Rally” throughout Portage County this Saturday from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM. The event is expected to feature as many as 100 cars and trucks, decorated with signs and slogans, supporting not only the Romney-Ryan ticket, but also other federal, state and local candidates endorsed by the Portage County TEA Party.  The Road Rally will cover 100 miles within the borders of Portage County and portions of it will pass through nearly every township, city and village in the county. Many candidates are expect to join the Road Rally at various stages of the rally route.

In making the announcement, Portage County TEA Party Executive Director, Tom Zawistowski said, “Our members have been working really hard for months on this election, going door-to-door, making phone calls, holding candidates’ nights, so we decide this weekend we would have some fun. The Romney-Ryan Road Rally is kind of a cross between a progressive dinner and a football tailgate party.  We are going to decorate our cars with signs, slogans, flags and streamers, and just let the citizens of Portage County know which candidates are endorsed by the Portage County TEA Party.”

Zawistowski concluded by adding, “This is an event many of our older and younger members can participate in, since we will be driving instead of walking. We plan on making several stops around the county at which we will hand out candidate literature and signs, perhaps sing a few patriotic songs, grab some snacks and just enjoy a beautiful fall day in our beloved Portage County. We ask our fellow citizens to honk their car horns, or come out and wave as we go by, in a show of support for our candidates, when they see us in their community on Saturday.”

The TEA Party is not a political party but a grassroots cultural movement.  The movement is educating American citizens about the Constitution and the uniquely American form of self-governance that has made our country so successful.  Through this education, the movement is attempting to re-define what it means to be an American citizen, by encouraging individual to vote, to run for office and to attend government meeting in their area so that they can participate in their self governance.  The acronym TEA stands for Totally Engaged Americans.
