PRESS RELEASE

PORTAGE COUNTY TEA PARTY PAC ENDORSES TOMMIE JO MARSILIO FOR PORTAGE COUNTY COMMISSIONER

INDEPENDENT BRUCE SAXE DROPS OUT OF RACE AND ENDORSES MARSILIO

Rootstown, Ohio -  The Portage County TEA Party Political Action Committee (PAC) announced today that they are endorsing Republican Tommie Jo Marsilio for Portage County Commissioner.  Marsilio is a TEA Party member, a lawyer, and a small business owner who has worked for the local, state, and federal governments.  Tom Zawistowski, Executive Director of the Portage County TEA Party PAC, made the announcement at a press conference held in Rootstown on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at the Portage County TEA Party monthly meeting.  In a related development, Independent Conservative Candidate Bruce Saxe announced at the meeting that he was dropping out of the County Commissioners race and also endorsing Marsilio.

Zawistowski said, “First of all, Tommie Jo is a true conservative. She is fiscally conservative, she believes in smaller government, and she is running as a representative of the people, not of her party or monied special interests. Second, she has more experience in government affairs than conservative Independent Bruce Saxe, whom we respect a great deal, or the Democratic candidate.  Finally, she has significant legal experience in the government arena, including time as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Portage County which we think is going to be important.  There are already legal issues involving our county commissioners and other government leaders and, based on what is happening in Cuyahoga County and Mahoning County recently, we are concerned that Portage County is going to be under close scrutiny and possible investigation in the near future.  We are endorsing a strong, irreproachable candidate like Tommie Jo to bring credible leadership to our County.”

In making his announcement to drop out of the County Commissioners race and support Marsilio, Bruce Saxe said “As of August 10th 2010, I have decided to withdraw from the November 2nd election and have also decided to throw my support behind Republican candidate Tommie Jo Marsilio.  I believe at this critical time in our country and our county, it is imperative that we elect a strong conservative to the commissioner’s office.  With the amount of support that both Miss Marcilio and I have received the past few months, it is my belief that we would be hurting ourselves greatly if we both continued to run. With the endorsement of Tommie Jo Marsilio by the Portage County TEA Party PAC, which I am a proud member of, I believe it is in the best interest of the people of Portage County for me to step aside and give her my full support. I believe that she has the same conservative beliefs as I do. I would ask at this time that all my supporters get behind her for the good of Portage County.”

This is the first of many state and local endorsements that the Portage County TEA Party PAC will be making before the November election.  The TEA Party is not a political party but a political movement.  The next endorsement, for Ohio Attorney General, will take place on Thursday, August 12 in Brimfield.

Vicki Kline Video (Democratic Party)

E-mail Print PDF

Vicki Kline ran unsuccessfully for County Treasurer in 2004. She decided the voters in Portage County needed a choice between her and chuck Keiper in 2010 and she won the Democratic primary by a landslide. She seems to be well funded with a good deal of the money being her own. She is a CPA and has excellent financial experience. She doesn’t have a website but can also be followed on Facebook like most of our candidates this year. Watch her video and stay tuned for her survey, mailed out March 15, 2010 with a self addressed stamped envelope. If you call her or see her ask if she plans on answering our survey.
