Six Months to Go Until
The Largest Tax Hikes in History

In just six months, the largest tax hikes in the history of America will take effect.  They will hit families and small businesses in three great waves on January 1, 2011:

First Wave: Expiration of 2001 and 2003 Tax Relief

In 2001 and 2003, the GOP Congress enacted several tax cuts for investors, small business owners, and families.  These will all expire on January 1, 2011:

Personal income tax rates will rise.  The top income tax rate will rise from 35 to 39.6 percent (this is also the rate at which two-thirds of small business profits are taxed).  The lowest rate will rise from 10 to 15 percent.  All the rates in between will also rise.  Itemized deductions and personal exemptions will again phase out, which has the same mathematical effect as higher marginal tax rates.  The full list of marginal rate hikes is below:

- The 10% bracket rises to an expanded 15%
- The 25% bracket rises to 28%
- The 28% bracket rises to 31%
- The 33% bracket rises to 36%
- The 35% bracket rises to 39.6%

OBAMA: US BORDERS CANNOT BE SECURED

(CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama said Thursday (7-1-10) that U.S. borders cannot be secured with fences and border patrols. “It won’t work,” he said.

Obama made the statement in a speech at American University in Washington, D.C. in which he called on Congress to enact a “comprehensive immigration reform” law that would include a “pathway for legal status” for illegal immigrants—or what critics call amnesty.

“Even as we are committed to doing what’s necessary to secure our borders, even without passage of the new law, there are those who argue that we should not move forward with any other elements of reform until we have fully sealed our borders,” said Obama. “But our borders are just too vast for us to be able to solve the problem only with fences and border patrols. It won’t work. Our borders will not be secure as long as our limited resources are devoted to not only stopping gangs and potential terrorists, but also the hundreds of thousands who attempt to cross each year simply to find work.”

WHY THE GREATER DEPRESSION STILL LIES AHEAD

Obama, Bernanke pile on debt when de-leveraging is needed.

  Michael Pento

If policymakers do not understand the real cause of a problem, they will in all likelihood be unable to provide a genuine solution.

Messrs. Barack Obama, Benjamin Bernanke and Timothy Geithner do not understand the real cause of this debt crisis. They are politicians first and economists or students of the market second–if at all. Therefore, it is not wise to count on them to tell us when the Great Recession is over, or to provide a plan to prevent another one in the future.

The cause of the Great Depression in the 1930s, and the Great Recession beginning in 2007, was one and the same: an overleveraged economy. Excessive debt levels are the direct result of the central bank providing artificially low interest rates and of superfluous lending on the part of commercial banks.

The easy money provided by banks eventually brings debt in the economy to an unsustainable level. At that point, the only real and viable solution is for the public and private sectors to undergo a protracted period of deleveraging. The ensuing depression is, in actuality, the healing process at work, which is marked by the selling of assets and the paying down of debt.

Unfortunately, our politicians today are focused on fighting this natural healing process by promoting the accumulation of more debt.

THE 17th AMENDMENT WAS A VERY BAD IDEA

When all government, domestic and foreign, in little as in great things, shall be drawn to Washington as the centre of all power, it will render powerless the checks provided of one government on another, and will become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated.” — Thomas Jefferson, in 1821

The popular election of our Senators is bad public policy because it stripped the states of the one voice of representation they had in Washington, DC. James Madison, remembered as the Father of the Constitution, cautioned against “nationalism,” wherein a strong national government would rule from Washington. Madison instead favored a new system, to be known as “federalism,” which would give co-equal powers to the state and the federal governments. One of the key aspects of maintaining this distinction was the manner in which U.S. Senators were selected.

BOEHNER HITS BACK

the Wall Street reform bill. AP

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) is going another round with Democrats and President Barack Obama, accusing them of “childish partisanship” for their criticism of his comments on financial reform.

“For someone who asked to be held to the highest standard, President Obama spends an awful lot of time making excuses and whining about others,” Boehner said Thursday. “With the president failing to lead, Democrats are rushing out of town to watch fireworks and eat macaroni salad.”

VIRGINIA CHALLENGES OBAMACARE

Constitution comes first in Virginia's Obamacare challenge

RICHMOND, Va. – Visitors in Ken Cuccinelli’s modest office overlooking the state Capitol can readily see the appreciation of Virginia’s attorney general for the Founding Fathers.

Paintings of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry hang on his wall. The Gadsden flag stands next to his desk. And when you ask Cuccinelli about Obamacare, he immediately shifts the conversation to the U.S. Constitution.

“I don’t think in my lifetime we’ve seen one statute that so erodes liberty than this health care bill,” Cuccinelli said in a recent interview. “Certainly, we view our lawsuit as being not merely about health care. That’s actually secondary to the real important aspect of the case, and that is to protect the Constitution as we essentially define the outer limits of federal power. If we lose, it’s very much the end of federalism as we’ve known it for over 220 years.”

Virginia’s lawsuit asserts that President Obama’s health care law is unconstitutional on the basis of its individual mandate requiring Americans to buy insurance. The suit seeks to protect a Virginia statute, passed by the state legislature in March, which says Virginians cannot be compelled to buy health insurance or to pay a penalty if they refuse insurance.

THE LEFTIST 'PURIFICATION' MOVEMENT

To the contemporary conservative, progressive ideology is often murky and incomprehensible.  It is very difficult for some on the right to understand the apparently illogical and unrealistic machinations of the radical leftist mindset.  Their political objectives, if achieved, inevitably lead to further demands for concessions toward an ever-greater ideological purity.

Something even darker and more malevolent is happening, however.  The various radical leftist factions and special interest groups are rapidly coalescing into a global movement.

BONUS BONANZA FOR FEDERAL WORKERS

Under the Obama administration, the government is doing such a good job that it's decided to reward itself. Last year, Uncle Sam paid out $408 million in bonuses to 1.3 million federal workers, according to the Asbury Park Press, which obtained the information through a Freedom of Information Act request. That's about $80 million more than the previous year. About one in four federal workers received a bonus, and awards ranged from $25 to, in the case of one lucky State Department worker, $94,500.

That $408 million figure only counts bonuses that were handed out to about 65 percent of the federal work force. The FOI request didn't cover awards handed out by the Defense and Treasury departments, security agencies, the White House, Congress and various other federal agencies and commissions. In 2008, the last year information was available, the Department of Defense alone handed out $92 million in bonuses to its 687,000 employees.

Are there no leaders in America?

E-mail Print PDF
: starstarstarblankblank

I am writing to ask “Where are our leaders in America today?”  Are there no business leaders, no religious leaders, no political leaders anywhere in our country?  Those of us in the TEA Party movement just want someone, anyone, in authority to tell the truth!  Instead, we get this constant stream of politically correct babble. Insanity that we are supposed to accept as truth.  American leadership has turned into its own version of the classic Hans Christian Anderson tale “The Emperor’s New Clothes.”  Instead of the King being made a fool by wearing a suit of invisible clothes, American leaders are made the fool by saying, with much conviction, things that any common person knows to simply be untrue.

Let me make an example using the recent controversy over the “non-perfect, perfect game” pitched by Detroit Tigers Pitcher Armando Galarraga against the Cleveland Indians.  Anyone watching the game or the replay can plainly see that the Indians’ player is clearly out at first base for the 27th out.  The umpire who called him safe, after the game admits that he “blew the call,” and that the player was out, and that it was a perfect game. There is irrefutable photographic and video evidence that the player was out.  This is not just some minor dispute.  This matters.  This is one of only 21 perfect games in the entire history of major league baseball.
