INMATES IN CHARGE OF ASYLUM

Instead of ending bailouts of firms that are “too big to fail,” the overhaul authored by Sens. Chris Dodd, right, and Barney Frank, left, makes the process permanent. (Susan Walsh/AP File)

CONGRESSIONAL BUDGET OFFICE WARNING

The CBO Warns the Nation; Is Anybody Listening?

Warning signs are everywhere -- most of them carefully phrased and nuanced, but warnings, nevertheless. Greece and, closer to home, California are painful reminders of what could happen. CNBC is reporting that the Dow is repeating patterns that prevailed just before the Great Depression. The U.S. workforce suffered one its sharpest declines ever -- a drop of 652,000 -- in June. Economists claim that "wages are flirting with deflation." It's hard to find good news on the financial front. Now, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) just released its "Long-Term Budget Outlook" to confirm what people already feared: The national debt is devastating for the future of America. According to the CBO, "the federal government has been recording the largest budget deficits, as a share of the economy, since the end of World War II." As a result, the CBO paints a very bleak picture of our nation's future prospects. Further, as the world's remaining superpower, this country's terrible financial condition affects all other nations -- a fact that makes the CBO report even more alarming.

AS OBAMA KOWTOWS, UNIONS EYE THE PRIVATE SECTOR

One of the interesting things about the Obama administration is the strange dominance of labor unions. Yes, Barack Obama and other Democratic leaders do owe the unions something: Unions gave $400 million to Democrats in the 2008 campaign cycle, and they expect to get something in return.

What they haven't gotten out of the Democratic Congress is the thing they wanted most -- the card check bill that would effectively abolish the secret ballot in unionization elections. Unions now represent only 7 percent of private-sector workers, the lowest percentage since the early 1930s. Union leaders believe that with card check they could vastly increase their dues income.

A MESSAGE FROM ONE CHAMBER TO ANOTHER

U.S. Chamber echoes anti-business attacks on Obama, Democrats

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is blasting the Obama administration and congressional Democrats for policies it says are expanding government and hindering an economic recovery.

The powerful business lobby group said Democrats and the White House have "neglected America's number one priority" -- creating jobs.

"Instead of continuing their partnership with the business community and embracing proven ideas for job creation, they vilified industries while embarking on an ill-advised course of government expansion, major tax increases, massive deficits, and job-destroying regulations," the Chamber wrote in an open letter to President Obama and lawmakers.

LATOURETTE BLASTED FOR BELIEVING IN TEA PARTY VALUES

Bill O'Neill, candidate for Ohio's 14th Congressional Seat now held by Republican Steve LaTourette, wasted no time in blasting the Congressman for his recent appearance at a Portage County TEA Party function.

In a release sent to O'Neill supporters, LaTourette was strongly criticized for rightfully describing the reigning national crew as "the train wreck in Washington.  The O'Neil release states that:

On Jul 6th, Rep. LaTourette addressed a gathering of the Portage County Tea Party (Portage County Tea Party). The group, which grew to prominence alongside Sarah Palin 2008, held its monthly meeting at NEOUCOM. Although his longtime friend and supporter Jim Traficant was unable to attend (BOE disqualification), Rep. LaTourette was able to espouse enough right wing rhetoric for the both of them. Rep. LaTourette said, "I must give big credit to the Tea Party because the other side cannot have town hall meetings anymore." In a half-hour speech, Rep. LaTourette reiterated his commitment to the ideals and principles of the Tea Party.

In describing the "train wreck in Washington," the Representative proudly presented his votes against TARP, the Stimulus Package, Obama's Healthcare Plan, and the future Cap and Trade bill. Instead of understanding the necessity of these economic programs and their value to the middle class of Northeast Ohio, Rep. LaTourette and the Republican Party continue to rail against spending. He said, "What creates jobs is lower taxes and lower spending."

OBAMACARE AND ABORTION

E-mail Print PDF

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The Obama administration has officially approved the first instance of taxpayer funded abortions under the new national government-run health care program. This is the kind of abortion funding the pro-life movement warned about when Congress considered the bill.

The Obama Administration will give Pennsylvania $160 million to set up a new "high-risk" insurance program under a provision of the federal health care legislation enacted in March.

Obama Administration OKs First Tax-Funded Abortions Under Health Care Law

It has quietly approved a plan submitted by an appointee of pro-abortion Governor Edward Rendell under which the new program will cover any abortion that is legal in Pennsylvania.

The high-risk pool program is one of the new programs created by the sweeping health care legislation, Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, President Obama signed into law on March 23. The law authorizes $5 billion in federal funds for the program, which will cover as many as 400,000 people when it is implemented nationwide.

"The Obama Administration will give Pennsylvania $160 million in federal tax funds, which we've discovered will pay for insurance plans that cover any legal abortion," said Douglas Johnson, legislative director for the National Right to Life Committee.

Johnson told LifeNews.com: "This is just the first proof of the phoniness of President Obama's assurances that federal funds would not subsidize abortion -- but it will not be the last."

SIGNS OF THE TIMES

If you could spend vast amounts of other people's money just by saying a few magic words, wouldn't you be tempted to do it? Barack Obama has spent hundreds of billions of dollars of the taxpayers' money just by using the magic words "stimulus" and "jobs."

It doesn't matter politically that the stimulus is not actually stimulating and that the unemployment rate remains up near double-digit levels, despite all the spending and all the rhetoric about jobs. And of course nothing negative will ever matter to those who are part of the Obama cult, including many in the media.

But, for the rest of us, there is a lot to think about in the economic disaster that we are in.
